Sewer Line Repair in Woodland Hills, CA
The sewer line is the most expensive plumbing problem most homeowners ever face, and the one most people understand the least. It runs from the house to the city main, underground, out of sight, often under landscaping or driveways. When it fails, it fails in slow motion most of the time, until a backup forces the issue. Bryco Plumbing has been repairing sewer lines across Woodland Hills, the San Fernando Valley, LA County, and Ventura County for over 30 years. License #708581. Real diagnosis, honest options, and we will tell you when a spot repair is enough and when it is not.

Common Sewer Line Problems We Repair
Tree Root Intrusion
The most common sewer line problem in older Valley neighborhoods. Mature trees send roots into clay and cast iron sewer laterals through joints and small cracks. Once inside, the roots grow, catch debris, and eventually block flow. Repair options range from hydrojetting and chemical root treatment for early intrusion to spot repair or full replacement for more advanced cases.
Cracked or Broken Pipe
Soil movement, ground settling, and aging of the pipe material cause cracks. Small cracks let groundwater in and let sewage out. Larger breaks let in roots and debris, and can fail completely under pressure. We assess the location and severity on camera, then quote either a spot repair or a section replacement.
Belly (Sag) in the Line
A low spot in the sewer line that holds standing water and waste rather than draining through. Bellies usually develop where the soil under the pipe has settled. They cannot be lined effectively because lining preserves the existing geometry. They need to be excavated and the pipe re-bedded at proper slope.
Joint Separation
Sewer lateral pipes were historically installed in segments joined with rubber gaskets or mortar. Over time, soil movement and root pressure can separate those joints. The result is leaks at the joint, groundwater intrusion, and a pathway for roots.
Bellies Caused by Improper Original Installation
Some Valley homes have sewer lines that were installed without proper slope from day one. A two percent slope is industry standard; less than that causes chronic drainage issues. We see this in custom home additions and certain pre-1970 builds. Repair often means re-laying the line at proper slope.
Foreign Object Blockages
Toys flushed years ago, construction debris from a previous remodel, accumulated 'flushable' wipes that did not flush. We see them on camera and plan a targeted removal.

Signs You May Need Sewer Line Repair
- Multiple drains in the house backing up at the same time
- Gurgling sounds from drains when fixtures elsewhere are used
- Sewage smell in the yard or near the cleanout
- Wet, soft, or unusually green patches of lawn over where the sewer line runs
- Sinkholes or depressions in the yard
- Slow drainage throughout the house, not just one fixture
- Recurring main line backups
- Visible rodent or insect activity around the sewer cleanout (compromised pipe attracts pests)
Sewer Line Repair Methods We Use
- Spot Repair (Traditional Excavation). For an isolated crack, break, or root intrusion at a single location, the most cost-effective fix is often a spot repair. We dig a targeted access point, expose the damaged section, replace it with new pipe, and restore the surface. Works well when the rest of the line is in good condition.
- Trenchless Repair (Pipe Lining or Pipe Bursting). For damage spread along a longer section, or for lines under driveways, hardscape, or mature landscaping where excavation would be destructive, trenchless methods are usually the better call. We can line the existing pipe with an epoxy CIPP liner or burst the old pipe and pull a new one through. See our trenchless pipe repair page for the full breakdown.
Full Sewer Line Replacement
When the entire line is at the end of its life (multiple failure points, advanced corrosion, repeated previous repairs), replacement is the long-term answer. See our sewer line replacement page for the full scope.
Our Repair Process
- Camera inspection first. No real diagnosis happens without seeing the line. We never quote a major sewer repair without footage.
- Honest assessment. If a spot repair is enough, we say so. If the line is past saving, we say that too.
- Written estimate with options. Most repair situations have more than one valid approach. We give you the options with real numbers.
- Permits pulled. Sewer work in California requires permits in most jurisdictions. We handle it.
- Code-compliant repair. Done to current California plumbing code, including the connection back to the city main.
- Post-repair camera verification. You see the finished work on camera before the trench is filled in.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sewer Line Repair
Cost varies dramatically based on the repair method, the length and location of the damage, and access. A simple spot repair on an accessible section of line is the lowest-cost option. A full trenchless replacement runs higher. A traditional excavated replacement under a driveway or mature landscaping is the highest. We give you written estimates for the viable options, with no surprise charges.
In many cases, yes. Trenchless methods (epoxy lining and pipe bursting) repair or replace sewer lines without significant excavation. They work best for lines that are damaged along their length, that have multiple problem spots, or that run under hardscape or landscaping. We will tell you honestly whether your specific situation is a good candidate.
A spot repair on an accessible section typically takes one day. Trenchless lining or bursting usually completes in one to two days. Full traditional excavation and replacement can take three to five days depending on length, depth, and what is on the surface that needs restoration.
Most standard homeowner policies do not cover sewer lateral damage from age, root intrusion, or normal wear. Some policies offer sewer line endorsements as an add-on, which often pay for repair or replacement when conditions are met. We provide written documentation including camera footage that supports any insurance claim you decide to file.

Technician Danny Alvarado from Bryco Plumbing Inc is very knowledgeable and helped upgrade my current water heater with parts to keep the unit running better. He diagnosed the issues quickly and explained what needed to be done to remedy the situation. He had to add an expansion tank to the water heater plus an additional shut off valve. He also changed out the water regulator on the house. Which like clockwork needed to be done. I’ve replaced it before since owning my house. I felt comfortable with him and his work. I will definitely be calling the company again if I have any issues. Thank you Danny Alvarado & Bryco Plumbing Inc.Posted on Google George HoffmanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
