Kitchen Plumbing in Woodland Hills, CA

The kitchen is where plumbing gets the hardest use in any home. Hot water cycles, food waste, grease, soap, dishwasher detergent, ice maker lines, garbage disposals, and pot fillers all share a relatively small set of supply lines and drains. When something goes wrong, life pretty much stops until it gets fixed. Bryco Plumbing has been the kitchen plumbing call for Woodland Hills, SF Valley, Los Angeles, and Ventura County families for over 30 years. License #708581. Same-day service for most calls.

Troubleshooting

Common Kitchen Plumbing Problems We See

The calls we get most often in Valley kitchens, and what usually causes them.

01

Garbage Disposal Issues

The most common kitchen call. Jammed, leaking, humming but not turning, or completely dead. About 70 percent of disposal calls are simple fixes: a jam cleared with the wrench slot, a reset button pressed, or a stuck flywheel freed. The other 30 percent need parts or a full replacement. We carry the common units (Insinkerator, Waste King, Moen) on the truck.

02

Kitchen Sink Drain Clogs

Almost always a buildup of food debris, soap scum, and grease in the P-trap or just downstream. We clear, inspect, and recommend a habit change if needed (grease should never go down the drain, and the dishwasher should be running with hot water already at the tap before it kicks on).

03

Leaks Under the Sink

The kitchen sink has more connections than any other fixture in the house: hot supply, cold supply, drain, disposal, dishwasher drain, sometimes filter and ice maker lines. A leak can come from any of them. We track it down with systematic leak repair rather than tearing things apart guessing.

04

Dishwasher Drain or Supply Issues

A dishwasher that does not drain often has a kinked drain hose, a clogged air gap, or a blocked routing through the disposal. A dishwasher that does not get water has a supply line or shut-off issue. We diagnose without assuming the appliance is the problem.

05

Ice Maker and Refrigerator Water Line Leaks

Saddle valves on copper supply lines develop pinhole leaks that can run for weeks before anyone notices. Modern installations use proper shut-off valves instead. We upgrade old saddle valves during any kitchen plumbing visit.

Remodels

Kitchen Remodels and New Construction Plumbing

Remodeling a kitchen? Every plumbing decision made during the rough-in stage affects how the kitchen works for decades.

Sink Location & Configuration

Single-bowl, double-bowl, undermount, farmhouse. Each has different drain configuration requirements.

Disposal Sizing

A 3/4 horsepower disposal handles a family kitchen reliably. A 1/3 horsepower is undersized for most modern homes.

Pot Filler Installation

Requires a dedicated cold water supply, properly framed, with a shut-off valve accessible.

Dishwasher Supply & Drain

Air gap is required by California code in most jurisdictions.

Refrigerator Water Supply

Dedicated shut-off valve in an accessible location, not a saddle valve on a hot line.

Drain Venting

Improperly vented kitchen drains create slow drainage and gurgling sounds throughout the system.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Kitchen Plumbing

Usually not. A humming disposal is almost always jammed. With the power off, use the hex wrench that came with the disposal (it slots into the bottom of the unit) and rotate the flywheel back and forth to free the jam. Then press the red reset button on the bottom of the unit. About 70 percent of the time, that fixes it. If not, call us.

A quality disposal in a typical household lasts 8 to 15 years. Heavy use (large family, lots of cooking from scratch) shortens that. Light use extends it. The horsepower rating matters too. A 3/4 or 1 HP unit lasts longer than a 1/3 HP unit, often by years.

Yes. We install homeowner-supplied dishwashers regularly, including the plumbing connection, drain routing through the disposal, supply line, and air gap. We coordinate with an electrician if a dedicated circuit needs to be added. We do not install the dishwasher itself in the cabinet, that is the appliance delivery service or homeowner’s responsibility, but we handle every plumbing connection.

Almost always grease and food debris buildup in the P-trap or the drain line just downstream of it. A slow drain is the early warning before a fully clogged drain. Call us at the slow-drain stage and the fix is usually quick. Wait until it stops draining entirely and the fix becomes more involved.
